Block Paving Driveways
Block paving is sometimes known as brick paving and can be as decorative or as simple as you want. Perfect for a hard standing, driveway or pavement, the surface is very hard wearing. The materials used are usually cube-shaped and are thicker and stronger than paving slabs. Block paving needs to be expertly installed for the best finish.

WHY CHOOSE BLOCK PAVING
Materials used are usually concrete or clay, although there are composites available. Some materials are created from recycled materials such as crushed glass or old building rubble, which is good for the environment. The blocks can be installed to create innovative patterns such as the interlocking herringbone effect and is a popular style for driveways. Block paving can be used on pathways and forecourts.
As well as being incredibly hard wearing and stylish, block paving does not need much maintenance, and withstands harsh weather. Block paving can last a lifetime and if any repairs are needed, they are usually simpler to carry out.

F&Q’s
How much will it cost?
The cost is usually worked out per square metre. It tends to be cheaper than slabs and accurate costs are easy to work out once the area has been measured.
Does block paving last a long time?
Block paving can last at least a decade if well cared for. Jet washing once a year or when it needs it will ensure it stands the test of time. If it is laid properly by a professional company such GR Road Surfaces, then the sub-base should be stronger than the blocks and therefore should last much, much longer than ten years and can last a lifetime with suitable use and care.
How do block paving compare to other surfaces?
Block paving requires more preparatory work due to the materials and longevity. You can have your own pattern designed and laid during installation, putting a unique stamp on your home. Block paving, like many other surfaces, is best laid in dry conditions.
How long does block paving take to install?
As with all such projects, the time taken is affected by the size of area needing paving. Depending on the surface area and taking into account the preparation work then it can take as little as two days upwards. You can walk on the finished surface after a few hours. For vehicle use then we’d advise at least 48 hours to elapse before you use it. Our team will give you excellent advice about this.
What about maintenance?
If correctly and professionally installed, a block paved area should not have weeds growing through the block paving. What can happen is weeds colonise the sand-filled joints so they can appear as a result. This can happen if no maintenance is carried out. There is no such thing as maintenance-free as there is always some aftercare required. A jet wash or a wash with soapy water will keep your paving looking its best.
